Thu 26 Fly River Grassbird Bensbach River
May be the first sighting of this species for more than 20 years! Heard, then whistled in and sound recorded about 3km downstream from lodge. Good views of unstreaked bright chestnut crown and long white supercilium in combination with diagnostic vocalisation left no doubt. Also heard in two other sites on Bensbach River. Also 50 Sharp-tailed Sandpipers, 1 Curlew Sand, 2 Red-necked Stints, 10 Wood Sands, 3 Marsh Sands, 10 Common Sands and a Barn Swallow on the lower floodplain on 28 Aug.

Wed 25 Feline Owlet-nightjar Rondon Ridge
Single very responsive rufous morph almost landed on my head! Also an irruption of Papuan Parrot-finches feeding on Castanopsis flowers.

Tue 17 New Guinea Flightless Rail Ketu River near Kiunga
Single bird gave two good views from a hide in a sago swamp organised by Jimmy and Sam.

Sun 15 Papuan Hanging-Parrot Ok Menga Tunnel, Tabubil
Single bird seen quite well in flight after being tracked down to an Albizzia tree.

Sat 14 Greater Melampitta Dablin Creek, Tabubil
Single bird seen well, though briefly, twice moving to a sinkhole perching on an open branch across the creek. Possibly a pair exchanging on a nest. At least three heard in the area.

Wed 11 Wilson's Storm-Petrel Kimbe Bay
Single WSP gave good views. Also seen were 2 Heinroth's Shearwaters, 10 Wedge-tailed Shearwaters including a pale morph.
